WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
Here’s my three take away after watching Citizen Journalism by Paul Lewis. First, accepting the fact that we can’t know anything and allowing other people through technology to be our eyes and ears and as an aspiring journalist, this is just a basic rule that we should put in our minds. Because not all information that is given to us is enough to know the truth and to convey the facts. Second, social media can play a big role in knowing the truth. I agree with that, especially when Paul Lewis said that most of his gathered information is from Twitter. Well, it is because Twitter is the diary of most people who express themselves through tweeting, and because of that journalists will be able to gather more facts on it. Third, to record and share is also journalism and we all can do it. A great example of this is the case of the Mother and Son murder by a Police Officer which was recorded by a witness on film. I remember when this issue came upon the internet we also get to know more information about the past cases that the officer Jonel Nuezca had also killed two more people before. And by this, it can be helpful to the family of the victims to get justice and to fight with thousands of people on their backs. Citizen Journalism by Paul Lewis is a great reminder for the future journalist not to turn a blind eye and not sugar coating the truth.
